All:
I hope you are doing well despite current world events. I know with
24/7 Coronavirus we all need to hear some good news!
We are very nearly through the first three months of 2020 and thought
I should share with you a few thoughts and a story from a recent SSO
event.
2020 has gotten off to an amazing start, despite the current
situation! And, God is still in control and is not/was not surprised
or setback by Coronavirus.
So far Soul Survivor Outdoor (SSO) has hosted over 350 active duty
military service members at free Christ-centered outdoor events. Since
January we've hosted active duty military service members from Yuma,
AZ, Camp Pendleton and Twentynine Palms, CA at rock-climbing and
rappelling, skydiving, sailing, and outdoor lunch-chaplain partner
events.
Recently we had the privilege of hosting the commanding officer,
sergeant major, and squad and team leaders, of 2nd Battalion, 5th
Marines, at an all-day tandem skydiving event. That we had so many
senior leaders from a single battalion is not typical. That we were
able to share the gospel and love of Christ with all of them is
nothing short of miraculous.
Jon O'Hare, a U.S. Navy Independent Duty Corpsman (IDC), SSO volunteer
and combat veteran, shared his testimony and journey to faith in
Christ. His story was exceptionally well received as evidenced by the
crowd of Marines and sailors that gathered around him after his talk.
They wanted to hear more!
2nd Battalion, 5th Marines deploys in support of Special Purpose
Marine Air Ground Task Force Crisis Response-Central Command
(SPMAGTF-CR-CC) within the next few weeks. Their mission will take
them to some of the most spiritually dark and dangerous places on our
planet. Having the chance to share Christ with this group of warriors
is the kind of opportunity God is allowing SSO to be part of because
of the incredible support from individual donors, foundations, and churches.
You can learn more about the SPMAGTF-CR-CC at
https://www.imef.marines.mil/Units/SPMAGTF-CR-CC/.
Life stories like the one that Jon shared with the Marines a couple of
weeks ago, point toward the one true foundation. Jon's story also
resonates because it comes from someone who has "been there, done
that," and who's life looks like it does because his foundation is
Jesus, the unshakable rock.
Sharing the gospel through outdoor adventure in dynamic ways with
active duty military service members who need Jesus.... It's why we do
what we do, and you partner in this ministry!
We are looking forward to seeing what else God will do through all of
you and SSO in 2020!
"Surely the arm of the Lord is not too short to save, nor his ear too
dull to hear." Isaiah 59:1
Thank you again for your prayers and support!
Semper Fi,
Rick
